Hire from outside of Canada
Because of Newfoundland and Labrador’s changing demographics, increased immigration is critical for both the provincial economy and the success of individual businesses. Hiring from outside of the country offers work-based entry for immigrants looking to start a career in Canada, while contributing to your business’ diversity and capacity to innovate. There are a number of programs available that can help.
To help employers challenged to fill full-time job vacancies and newcomers seeking work, the Department of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills (IPGS) will be job-matching employers with qualified newcomers looking to immigrate permanently to Newfoundland and Labrador.
As an employer, you may register via the Employer Registration Form.
You will then be contacted by an official from IPGS to discuss your human resources needs and they will share candidate resumes with you that meet your requirements.
Departmental staff may assist you in setting up interviews with candidates. However, it will be up to you as an employer to select a candidate and extend a job offer. IPGS staff will then assist you in navigating next steps, including immigration-related steps your new employee will need to follow. Please note that all candidates will be assessed for immigration eligibility and their ability to work in Canada prior to their profiles being forwarded to you for consideration.
The AIP helps employers in the Atlantic region hire job candidates who aren’t Canadian citizens or permanent residents. The candidates will fill jobs the employers have had trouble filling locally. If the candidate and employer meet the requirements, the candidate gets permanent resident status in Canada.
Prospective immigrants with the skills and experience targeted by the province may receive a Newfoundland and Labrador nomination to immigrate to and work in the province. Guidance and support are provided at no cost to employers and includes custom advice on optimal immigration pathways.
