Competitive compensation and benefits

This is often the first impression a prospective employee has in terms of how they will be valued within a company. New employees should have a clear understanding of compensation and benefits as well as company expectations from their first day onward.

Financial/Health Benefits

A comprehensive benefits package included in the initial compensation offering is also a must. This can include things like: Health / vision / dental; RRSP matching; life insurance; bonus structure; employee stock options; wellness benefits; etc.

Wellness Benefits

An employee who is physically and mentally fit is likely to be more productive, and offering wellness benefits exhibits caring for employees’ wellness as a whole. Examples of wellness benefits can include: gym membership discounts; allowances that can be used to purchase fitness gear or other memberships (e.g. a treadmill, strength training equipment, golf clubs, spin class membership, yoga membership); access to an employee assistance program, or programs for stress management; etc.

If you have not considered how compensation and benefits packages can impact the ability for your business to be attractive to the right employees, you may consider engaging a human resources professional to give you guidance.
